LG’s Chief Tech Officer at the CES press event said that they will be introducing ‘new stunning mobile device’, although the public only got to see the G Flex 2, rumors making rounds around tech-town today hint that LG unveiled another smartphone at a secret event. The company is working on a dual-edge ‘Active Bending’ device, and the prototype was shown to partners and potential clients. LG is not the only company working towards this innovative concept, back in September Samsung introduced the first device with side curve display, the Galaxy Note Edge and there are reports that Galaxy S6 variant Galaxy S6 Edge will have a dual-edge display too and few days ago Xiaomi also had a poster out, showing off their concept of a dual-sided curved display in Xiaomi Arch.
LG defines their concept as Active Bending and the prototype sports a 6-inch P-OLED display. Maybe LG will incorporate some of the materials used in the LG G Flex 2 to give their concept a uniqueness. The smartphone currently has a resolution of 720 x 1280 which is underwhelming. We hope that the manufacturer will be improving upon this aspect because rumors suggest that Galaxy S6 Edge will sport a QHd 2560 x 1440 display. If LG wants to bring out a winner in the dual-edge curved display concept, everything has to be top notch. The smartphone shown was just a prototype, that means that it is still in its testing and developmental stages and improvements can be made. Well it looks as if the competition is heating up between these two companies. It will be interesting to see what happens when the dual-edge curved display concept smartphones are launched.
